Unnamed Wife (Burgundy) Blog Entry |
November 15, 2024, 12:03:07 AM 11/15/24: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's characters from my anthro WWII storyline are an entire family sans one: Unnamed Father; Unnamed Mother; Unnamed Brother; and Unnamed Wife. They're the family of 2nd Lt. Burgundy Rat. Burgundy's father is deceased, and he's estranged from the others during the main story as there was some drama in their past. There'll be more about them later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se. Regarding their design, Burgundy and his brother largely resemble their father, while Burgundy shares his mother's eye color. And dang I wish I hadn't given his wife such distinctive colors as she barely appears in anything, ah well. TUMBLR EDIT: Entries modified hereafter to avoid repetition. Most relevant info has been given in Unnamed Father's entry. Regarding Unnamed Wife...as you can see from my (forgotten) writeup in Lyndsey Skye's entry, my original intent was for her to be critical and shrewish much like Unnamed Mother. I've since changed my mind; she's still outgoing and a bit overbearing (a reason Burgundy is able to distance himself from her, he doesn't deal well with overbearing women), but not intentionally cruel. She's actually an okay person--albeit flawed--who gets caught up in Burgundy's family drama when his brother nearly succeeds in seducing her at a vulnerable moment. They don't actually get to go through with it, but the attempt is enough to convince Burgundy to abandon the marriage. On the one hand, I suspect it wasn't an entirely happy partnership to begin with (Unnamed Wife might have cowed him into marrying her), and might not have lasted long on its own anyway; on the other hand, despite all the pain he's been through, Burgundy's reaction is a bit kneejerk, he never even bothers explaining himself--or giving her a chance to explain--before he leaves. Even by Burgundy's one-strike-and-you're-out standards, he rather lets his emotions get the better of him here, and it's frankly a little douchey. I never claimed Burgundy was good at this sort of thing, though. As for Unnamed Wife, once she realizes Burgundy has caught on, she makes his brother leave, and waits for Burgundy to return so she can explain things and ask forgiveness. Except he doesn't return...she goes looking for him, only to be blindsided by the information that he's left the country entirely, and apparently has no intentions of coming back. She holds out hope that she'll see him again, but when he doesn't return even after the war's end, she finally, sadly files for divorce. I do feel that, despite her actions and in contrast to my original ideas for her, Unnamed Wife genuinely cares for Burgundy, even if they aren't really compatible. She really did want to see him again and try to start over. She ends up an unwitting victim--rather, collateral damage--of his brother's (and by extension his mother's) pointless cruelty. Unnamed Brother never even bothers coming back for her himself...he doesn't care for her, the spite was the point. I don't know if she ever finds someone else or not.
