Unnamed Father (Nixie) Blog Entry |
April 11, 2025, 12:00:49 AM 4/11/25: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's characters from my anthro WWII storyline are Unnamed Father and Unamed Mother, parents of Nixie. I haven't explored their personalities much but I do know they have a farm and seem well off. There'll be more about them later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se. TUMBLR EDIT: Individualized entries to avoid repetition. So I've been pretty ill lately, I honestly think I've developed an ulcer. May be seeing the doctor soon. ;_; So that's why my entry descriptions have been rather bleh. Here goes not much. I haven't much to say of Nixie's parents; most of their involvement in the story has been given in Nixie's and Turquoise Rat's entries. They unfortunately don't survive the story, ending up killed by Nazi troops who kidnap Nixie for forced experimentation. Nixie really goes through the wringer in this story yet somehow manages to handle the trauma better than many of my other characters. I imagine it's at least partly due to her having had a good upbringing with supportive parents who understand her particular difficulties. Namely? Nixie is a clairvoyant and an empath; she's easily overwhelmed by the emotions of others, and is subject to psychic trances. This talent runs in the family, though I've seen no sign of her parents--particularly her mother--possessing it, BUT, it's possible, and is a detail that may emerge with further introspection. (Various characters in the story possess psychic or visionary abilities to varying degrees, and in each case it's intergenerational, usually passed on through the female side of the family. So this appears to be part of this world's lore. Examples I can think of--all of them from the rodent side of the story so far--are Nixie, Turquoise Rat (inherited from his mother), Copper Rat (he has no such talent, but claims his mother does), and Otto Himmel (again, from his mother). (Champere...may be visionary or may just be nuts. Jäger claims to have powers--his grandmother was a self-described witch--yet doesn't appear to actually possess any without the aid of drugs or the Ultima Thule serum.)) If Nixie's mother does indeed possess the talent, I can easily imagine that she's suppressed it in an effort to live a normal life, and, like Frau Himmel, is saddened that her child ends up with the talent herself. There are many poor farming families in the story setting (Klemper's is one, also Dasch), though the...well, Nixie's unnamed family isn't one of their number. Neither are they one of the rich Junker farming families, like the von Zierenwalds or the von Dobermanns. They're along the lines of the Albrechts, I suppose--moderately educated and well off, kind of upper-middle class, gentleman farmer types. Probably come from money. Rather hard to describe. They have their nice country homestead and a small parcel of farmland but don't have the need to do much with it. It seems to be just them and Nixie so I don't know that they employ any workers or anything. The father is old enough that the military doesn't want him, and the mother and Nixie are women so they're supposed to stay at home anyway, so aside from the occasional Wehrmacht units passing through they're largely untouched by the war, until Nixie crosses paths with American soldier Turquoise in the oddest possible way. Nixie's parents don't protest this intrusion into their otherwise peaceful lives, even though it ends up having such sad consequences for them. They seem to genuinely like Turquoise; likely, Nixie fills them in on her and Turquoise's similarities, so perhaps they hope the two can connect and understand each other...even if Turquoise is technically the enemy. Nixie's family are no fans of the Nazi regime, rightfully considering it a threat to people like themselves--this comes true when an SS official targets Nixie herself for her abilities. I'm a bit bothered, I admit, by how suddenly and without fanfare Nixie's parents exit the story. Turquoise realizes she's in danger for a second time and when the Trench Rats visit her home, they find her missing, and her parents dead--killed by the Germans. (It's unclear at the moment whether it was the SS or the Wehrmacht; a Waffen-SS officer is behind Nixie's kidnapping and temporary incarceration in a camp, though others in the Allgemeine-SS, such as Jäger, are initially uninvolved in and unaware of what's happening; it's highly possible the parents were killed either by a Wehrmacht unit or maybe the Einsatzgruppen who cause such a headache for everyone involved.) I don't know yet if Nixie witnesses the murders or if the officer attempts to lie to her to ensure her cooperation, though the latter would obviously fail as she'd be able to sense their deaths if she were nearby at the time. Due to events, she doesn't get the chance to properly process the incident or mourn their deaths until some time has passed and her own safety has been ensured. When Turquoise finally rescues her from a transport train with the unexpected aid of enemy soldiers Ratdog and Klemper--both of whose pasts Nixie manages to see when they grasp hands--she's simply glad to see him. I imagine she has a lot to emotionally process after that, probably with Turquoise's aid. One possibility that could be explored regards Captain Himmel, who, similar to Turquoise and Nixie, is prone to trances, though his are far more infrequent and seem more related to the dead than to clairvoyance. Himmel's particular type of empathy extends to those close to him who have died; he often has visions of what seem to be their spirits, though it's unclear whether this is supernatural or if he's just imagining them. (Evidence points toward the former when Turquoise facilitates a vision Himmel experiences of his dead father; Turquoise has no idea who the sailor in the vision is, but Himmel does.) Himmel forms a connection to Turquoise in the story after Turquoise grasps his hand, so it's not difficult to assume he also connects with Nixie, especially after she ends up in Projekt Weltuntergang headquarters where he works. Is it possible he catches a glimpse of her parents after they're gone? If so, I could imagine him sharing this information with her, either as a quid pro quo (the same way he tips off Turquoise to the Nazis' uranium project after Turquoise keeps his secret), or just out of compassion (likely after his capture or the war's end). So it's possible Himmel could help Nixie attain a sort of closure, though I'm uncertain yet if it occurs. In any case, I know hardly anything of Nixie's father here, and possibly only a bit more about her mother (she may be a "sensitive" herself), so any further details will need to wait for another day. Please see his wife's entry. [Unnamed Father (Nixie) 2025 [Friday, April 11, 2025, 12:00:49 AM]] |
