Appearance
Volodymyr is of short height; with a lean/wiry body type; has very pale gray-blue eyes; and has mousy brown fur.
Volodymyr has very large upright ears; a snubby, upright nose; and visible fangs and claws (see below). He wears an old Red Army uniform and garrison cap, with special slits in the sides of the uniform to accommodate his wings (these aren't highly visible, and are often mistaken for part of his outfit, until/unless he extends them); he often wraps his feet in cloth rather than wear boots. Due to all his fingers but his thumb being part of his wings, he wears metal hooks attached to the tops of his wings via straps and held in place by his thumbs; he uses these almost as skillfully as real hands, though their function is limited. He's functionally blind--he can detect light and shadow, though that's about it--yet is exceptionally skilled at echolocation, using both his mouth and nose to discern his surroundings, and can differentiate people based on their scent. He has a stoic, casual, outspoken demeanor.

Trivia
*Volodymyr is named for Vladimir (Volodymyr) the Great, Grand Prince of Kiev. Interestingly but coincidentally, Vladimir's grandmother was Olga of Kiev, for whom female sniper "Saint Olga" is nicknamed.
*He appears to be a pious Christian, yet isn't above engaging in shady behavior to achieve his goals. While describing how he managed to survive internment in a labor camp, he claims, "Hard work; you work hard, they don't want to kill you. But also luck. And prayer. And bribes. Probably mostly bribes, tak."
*He's suspicious of all Germans, referring to them with disparaging names and stereotypes, and especially hates those who served in the military whether they were members of the Nazi Party or not, believing they're basically all fascists. On the mission to the Alpine Fortress he calls Ratdog/Adel "Fritz," and Otto Himmel "Fashy."
*The sound he makes while echolocating is silent to almost everyone but other bats, though the exceptionally sensitive Kolten claims the noise hurts his ears. Surprised, Volodymyr starts calling him "Fancy Ears."
*He's one of the very rare individuals who Himmel threatens to kill (after Volodymyr indicates that he might call Kolten a disparaging name).
*He possesses almost supernatural skills of sensing others, including the ability to differentiate between nationalities (including regional differences), and even telling the difference between friend and foe of the same nationality. His attempted explanations--that different nationalities smell different, and that the shapes of allies and enemies "sound different"--hint at possible synesthesia.
