He's of tall height; with a fit/athletic, lightly muscular body type; has light blue eyes; and has blue-gray fur and blond hair. Heidenreich wears the traditional black Allgemeine-SS uniform and SS-Degen (dress sword) while in the office or at work and sometimes a gray SS uniform when in the field. He has a loud, staccato, ridiculous laugh, a lot like a goat bleating, which no one has the courage to dare make fun of. When in public with his wife Eva, they usually walk arm-in-arm with her acting deferential toward him like a good Nazi wife, though they act more like equals in private; outwardly they're the ideal SS power couple. Family & Relationships Eva Heidenreich (Wife/Victim/Murderer) [Coming soon.] Mitzi (Casual Lover) [Coming soon.] Unnamed Maid (Lover/Victim) Young housemaid who Heidenreich impregnates; she tells Eva Heidenreich that the father is a stable boy, though Eva discovers the truth later on. Heidenreich readily admits the affair when Eva confronts him about it, and as the maid is of "good German blood," agrees to Eva's request that she be allowed to keep the child and he'll provide for it, though he'll play no hand in raising it. It's never made clear whether this relationship is consensual or not. History [Coming soon.] Heidenreich In Heaven [Coming soon.] Trivia *Heidenreich is not directly based on, but takes some inspiration from, Reinhard Heydrich. Their main similarities are being chief of the SD, having an annoying goatlike laugh, and ending up assassinated (though the specifics of Heidenreich's murder are much different from Heydrich's). *He's a serial philanderer, engaging in multiple casual affairs despite being married and putting on a respectable front with Eva. He makes little effort to conceal any of these affairs; Eva tolerates most of them, though she does engage in several retaliatory affairs of her own. His relationship with the half-Jewish Mitzi is where Eva draws the line. *At the Reichsführer's and Eva's request, Gunter Hesse temporarily assumes his position in the Sicherheitsdienst, though he declines a promotion or a permanent post. Ironically, this places Hesse in charge of the investigation into his murder, and leads to Eva's arrest and execution. *The sign on his office wall, reading "Swing Tanzen Verboten!", was inspired by a similar sign I saw in a museum mockup of a German office online; it translates to "Swing Dancing Forbidden!" Swing music was considered "degenerate" under the Third Reich and had its own subculture. It's a running gag in the story that Heidenreich frequently expresses displeasure over various "degenerate" activities while attempting to find ways to make such activities lucrative for the SS. *Keeping in line with his frequent hypocritical opportunism, as chief of the SD he declines to investigate Hesse's sexual harassment complaint against the influential (and wealthy) General Immerwahr, yet praises Hesse for having the "balls" to file such a complaint in the first place, and hires him partly based on this. *Another running gag involves him gifting an electric typewriter to Hesse, and rebuking Hesse for manually typing "SS" rather than making use of the machine's special SS key. (An article about the real-life typewriter can be found here.) *[Coming soon.] Click to view/download various sizes (Flickr) ![]() ![]() |
