Trivia
*Gerhardt is named after his paternal great-grandfather, Stefan. Stefan helped raise Gerhardt's father, Hermann. Hermann Americanized the name to avoid anti-German stigma.
*Similar to Alpha Squad and the Trench Rats, he's part of a covert/clandestine American military mission working behind German lines to gather intel on Nazi activities. His unit is among the first to discover evidence of the extermination camps when they come across an abandoned cattle car full of corpses.
*His ability to speak fluent German is considered an asset by the military, as teaching subjects involving Germany is highly discouraged at the time due to anti-German sentiment stemming from the Great War.
*His entire immediate family are victims of hate crimes: Father Hermann is beaten to death by an anti-German mob, while mother Abigail and younger brother Caleb die in an act of antisemitic arson against their synagogue.
*His father is Christian, yet as his mother is Jewish, he himself is considered Jewish.
