Anthon takes after his father Fredrik, with a tall, imposing physical build. He has various self-inflicted tears and nicks in his ears. He has a severe developmental/intellectual disability (what would nowadays likely be considered autism) which renders him incapable of speech, learning, or basic self-care; he vocalizes with moans, barks, and cries/shouts when he's upset about anything, and his parents interpret this accordingly. He almost never makes eye contact, tending to stare blankly and rock back and forth, though he can become loud and destructive if frustrated. He wears simple farm-style clothes handmade by his mother from sturdy materials to better withstand him messing himself or tearing at them when upset; they have few buttons, as he's unable to dress himself. He's not physically disabled, however; he's able to carefully handle and position model trains without damaging them as long as he's focused. He's generally docile and quiet when content, but can become upset easily, and is very physically strong. He appears unpredictable and somewhat threatening to outsiders when in reality he's like a child in an adult body. He has a self-absorbed, distant, uninvolved demeanor. Family & Relationships Fredrik Albrecht (Father) [Coming soon.] Lieselotte Albrecht (Mother) [Coming soon.] History [Coming soon.] Anthon In Heaven [Coming soon.] Trivia *Anthon's disability is most likely a form of severe autism, which is still in its infancy of being studied during the time period of the story. Professionals simply declare him Blöd (stupid) and recommend institutionalization. *He's euthanized via gas van (without his parents' permission or knowledge) in an SS-run institution. This is loosely based on the real-life Nazi program Aktion T4, which focused on eradicating the mentally ill, often disguising the murders as deaths due to disease or natural causes. Anthon's particular fate is based on accounts of unsuspecting parents receiving letters listing the cause of death as, for example, appendicitis, when the victim's appendix had been removed years before; there are also accounts of families being sent random ashes that may not have belonged to their deceased family member, as the victims' ashes were often mixed together. *[Coming soon.] Click to view/download various sizes (Flickr) ![]() |
