Major Titus Ellroy

9/6/24: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's characters from my anthro WWII storyline are Major Titus Ellroy and Hilda (last name never given). They're from the 2002 character list but were never much developed, so I need to work on them. Ellroy is in the British Army and Hilda is a romantic interest for Battleship Gray Rat. There'll be more about them later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.

Regarding their design, Ellroy is supposed to be a sort of big blustery but well-meaning type, thus the mustache; his fur is a bit longer and wavier too, similar to Mahogany's. Hilda is big and imposing, thus her rather menacing look. I drew her eye a bit weird so it bugs me, meh.

TUMBLR EDIT: As I mentioned, these two are referred to in the old character list, but beyond that--and an old, unfinished adult scene featuring Hilda--they were never actively developed. The rest of this entry will be different for both characters.

Here's the 2002 character list description for Major Ellroy:

TITUS ELLROY: Maj.; commander of the British forces in Germany, the one whom [Donovan] Bradford reports to. Big and blustery but not cruel; all smoke and no fire. Doesn't play a large part in things; prefers to sit back and let others take part in the action. Often called "Major Titus" by his men. Current storyline

Firstly let me say, damn I had trouble Googling what sort of cap Ellroy would wear. I'm not sure if it should have the red band, and I'm not sure if the...bullion?...the little thingumbob on the front...should be just the crown with the lion atop it as I settled on, or if it would be...whatever that other British Army logo(?) is, the bladed weapon crossed with ????? (whatever that object is), surrounded by a wreath. Or the lion and crown with a wreath? I dunno. I got tired of looking. I take plenty of uniform liberties, I guess this will be yet another. Moving on.

Ellroy was meant, I believe, as a sort of British equivalent of DeVries. DeVries has since undergone some character development. Donovan Bradford has gone through the same, so he can no longer directly report to Ellroy...Donovan is now RAF. This still leaves Thomas Harricks, however, and he and Donovan are close, so I assume Donovan is at least in close communication with Ellroy as an ally and associate. Intriguingly, this also leaves Liam Morgan. ICYMI, Morgan is the British Army sergeant who's been flipped by the Waffen-SS and now technically is a member of what I assume is my fictional version of the British Free Corps, although working undercover, so he's serving both sides. (I finally read the Wikipedia article on this unit. AW, it never had any more than 54 members and never all at once, CUTE LIL' TEENY-WEENY UNIT.) So, Ellroy is Morgan's superior and although not his commanding officer, still, they'll have reason to be in contact. Some interesting potential here.

As far as I'm currently aware, Ellroy is a good guy, unaware of Morgan's activities, though that could always change. I didn't know until relatively recently, after all, that poor dear Trench Rats sweetheart Cpl. Anna Julian is an absolute piece of racist trash recruited by Morgan...even Morgan ends up caught off guard by just how maliciously eager she is to serve the Fatherland. So, you never know.

Ellroy is supposed to have a bit of a temper, being rather loudmouthed and arrogant, though he's mostly bark and little bite. More of a bureaucrat type, perhaps; talks a big game but isn't a fighter. That's not to say he's never done his part; based on his age and experience I'm assuming he's a Great War veteran, so he probably did all his heroism stuff back then, and now mostly just commands others from behind a desk. He argues quite a lot but then usually goes along with whatever outlandish plan has been proposed to him. I figure Donovan, despite not being in his command, knows how to handle him and teaches this to the Trench Rats; there's bound to be one particular Rat he favors above the others, possibly to that Rat's consternation, though I'm unsure who this would be. Mahogany would be a fun choice, what with his eternal befuddlement regarding interpersonal interactions. I can imagine Gold nudging Mahogany to make nice with Ellroy, Ellroy treating Mahogany like a favored valet, and Mahogany having no idea WTF he's doing. Good times.

Anyway, that's about all I have to share regarding Ellroy right now, though he's due for further development at some future point, especially regarding Sgt. Morgan; like I said, lots of possibilities there.
