11/10/23: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's character from my anthro WWII storyline is Sgt. Irene Beaudry, sans cap (top drawing) and with cap (bottom drawing). She's sort of a reclaimed character from an earlier version of the story and was never developed much, though I plan to work on her sometime. She's an American who appears in the prequel story. There'll be more about her later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.

Regarding her design, I'm a bit iffy on her hairstyle.

TUMBLR EDIT: Gunnery Sergeant Evans (no first name ever given) is a Trench Rats: Genesis character on the circa-2000 reboot list. I believe I've mentioned him once or twice in passing as the guy who helps Camo get the Trench Rats idea off the ground, by smoothing things over with reluctant higher-ups. Many details of the newest reboot are still iffy, including a bunch of lesser characters, though Evans is set to make the cut. Although I have yet to determine what actual role, if any, she would play, I'd like Sgt. Irene Beaudry to also appear as originally planned. Here's Evans's original character description:

EVANS: Gunnery sgt.; assists Camo in getting the Trench Rats project off the ground, despite resistance from higher-ups. Ends up having to do a "favor" for Sgt. Beaudry to help Camo out. Appears in prequel

Hmmmmm, amirite...?

I wasn't nearly so coy, it turns out, with Beaudry's description:

IRENE BEAUDRY: Sgt.; helps Sgt. Evans assist Camo in getting the Trench Rats project started, but only after he goes home with her for the night. Appears staid and professional, but willing to bend the rules for Evans. Appears in prequel

Welp...you can't get much more obvious than that! Sgt. Beaudry, essentially, sexually harasses Evans in exchange for him asking for a favor. Yes, Evans does agree to her terms; she technically doesn't force him to do anything, and he could always refuse. But harassment is harassment, even way back then. Evans is squicked out, but goes along, because he genuinely believes in the potential good of Camo's project. There's another detail, however, that is a part of the reason why Evans goes "above and beyond" to help get the Trench Rats going, as well as the main reason why Beaudry's request is particularly onerous for him. That detail is Corporal Drake Rat. Specifically, Evans's crush on him. Evans would like to see the Trench Rats project get going as he can see how much it means to Drake, and of course, this means that the "favor" he has to do for Beaudry...really is not something his heart is into. Yet he does it anyway.

Setting aside any further detail regarding Evans, as this isn't his entry, Beaudry is currently an undeveloped character aside from this unsavory episode. She's not intended as a bad guy or antagonist; given the time period, her actions aren't regarded as lousily as they would be nowadays. Most of Evans's fellows would rib him and call him lucky if he were to open up about the experience. He keeps it to himself, and Beaudry holds up her end of the bargain (however that is, the details aren't smoothed out but I think she has the ear of some important guy who's in a position to do something, maybe...*checks list*...Dupries, or Revell?--more likely Dupries, Revell seems like an antagonist...*checks list*...um, Revell seems like a bad guy, period), and the Trench Rats project moves ahead. So, Beaudry does play an important role in greasing the wheels, so to speak, in however unpleasant a fashion.

I currently imagine her as similar to Katja Haring in personality, rather coy and manipulative with her femininity. Bats her eyes a bit too much, wears her dress blouse a bit too tight, leans over the desk a bit too far. Carries a bunch of file folders hugged to her chest so her arms push her bosoms up. Things like that. (As it is, Katja engages in behavior much similar to Beaudry's, frequently sexually harassing Captain Himmel.) She's not merely a pretty face, though; she's competent at her job (whatever it is), smart, and observant. She likely does some other things in the story to prove this, but seeing as Genesis isn't the focus of my attention lately, and she's not a major character (she appears only toward the beginning of the story, and MAYBE in Ultima Thule, though I'm unsure), it'll likely be a while yet before her character develops further. Just seemed like a waste to abandon her. *shrugs*
