Her eyes are bright green because her father is a demon; this is the only outward sign of her unnatural parentage, though she inherited various supernatural powers from him as well, including the ability to shapeshift into demon form herself. (This particular type of demon, the Ocryx, is a water and wind elemental with a wolf head, horns, wings, and a snake tail; HERE'S a drawing of Silver's half-brother and fullblooded Ocryx, Tal Natha. Note the green-and-red eyes. Three-quarters Ocryxes and over naturally take demon form, while half Ocryxes and under, like Silver, naturally take human form but often (not always) have an unusual physical attribute; Silver's daughter Winter Born, for example, has white hair.) Silver's ancestry served her well in becoming one of the most powerful medicine people on Manitou Island but she's generally feared and regarded with suspicion by most other Islanders. Despite this, she's quite rational, courteous, and levelheaded, using her powers to help others only, and ignoring the vaguely hostile reactions she sometimes gets.
