March 27, 2021, 3:17:14 PM 3/27/21: Red Bird, from my Manitou Island stories. Yep, she's native, and has red hair, because she's half Ocryx. For funsies, I went to ConvertImage.net's sepia converter to replicate something that happens early in my Manitou Island serial: Protagonist Charmian (incidentally, also a redhead) finds an old sepia-tinted photo of Red Bird dressed up in Victorian dress and posing with the Dupries family. (I never got to explain WHY she's dressed up in Victorian dress and posing with the Dupries family, but whatever.) Charmian can tell from looking at the photo that the as-yet unnamed Red Bird doesn't have the black hair typical of an American Indian; she guesses that it's red. My online friend--ALSO a redhead--saw this chapter and told me it wouldn't be possible to determine red hair color from a sepia-tinted photo; it'd just look brown. So if I ever edit the story (unlikely at this point in time for various reasons, but still), I'll modify this chapter to indicate that Charmian can't actually ascertain that Red Bird has red hair, but she can compare it to how her own hair looked once in a sepia-tinted photo, and she knows it's unusual. In any case, the funsies part is that I sepia-tinted the artwork to illustrate how Red Bird's hair would look in the story's photo. Indeed, brown. It's a lighter hue than her reddish-colored skin, and so would look unusual in a photo where you'd expect black hair. [OMITTED.] I hate how Tumblr downsizes pics when you include more than one in a post. 😕 Anyway...Shadow Water should be next up. [Red Bird 2021 [Saturday, March 27, 2021, 3:17:14 PM]] |
