What I did this week, again attempting to draw my characters. Here is a VERY rough sketch of Geezhigo-Quae, the Sky Mother and a powerful manitou (spirit being) from Ojibwa myth and my fantasy serials. I gave her a bit of color and broke my rather superstitious cardinal rule of not finishing the eyes of my rough portrait sketches, because if I do, I feel like they're looking at me and judging me for leaving them in such woeful shape with my limited face-drawing abilities. (I have...lots of psychological issues regarding eyes.) She just looked too empty with blank eyes. So I filled them in. Her eyes are blue, not brown, because she's the manitou of the sky, plus manitou eyes tend to glow blue (in my version of things). If I'd known I'd be finishing her eyes, I would've given her a more appropriate facial expression, perhaps slightly more stern looking with her eyes a bit frowny, or her lids lowered somewhat in a gentle expression. Oh well. ... I can't remember if I shared this before or not. 7/22 I made a halfway-decent sketch of another character of mine, Det. Michelle "Mike" Rosedale. Here she is posted in the new Tumblr I set up for my sketches (and which Google refuses to index for some reason, so nobody will ever stumble across it, thanks Google ☹ ). [Geezhigo-Quae Sketch 2019 2 [Sunday, July 28, 2019, 11:11:21 PM]] 8/23/19: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." Geezhigo-Quae, a powerful manitou from my Manitou Island fiction. Her name means Sky Woman, though the characters in the story refer to her as the Sky Mother; she's the ancestor of the Michinimakinong, or "Turtle Fairies." (She has wings, of course you can't see them here.) In my writing she lives in a giant maple tree which serves as a portal between worlds, though I really should've made it a cedar, because get this, the words for "sky" and "cedar" in Ojibwa are almost the same. But I really wanted a tree with color-shifting leaves, which a cedar doesn't have. Oh well. I went through another version of this, then returned to the original. 😖 Her eyes are bright blue, BTW, because she's a manitou and in my version of things their eyes glow blue, especially when they get angry/emotional. (Similar to my Egyptian gods...hm. 🤔 ) For some weird reason, Google Chrome for Android desaturates my work and makes her look brown rather than copper skinned (it did the same to my earlier red squirrel), so I advise checking her out in oh, say, maybe Brave browser instead. She has no profile yet but THIS is the serial she first appears in. And yep, she gets a dark past in the sequel. (EDIT, decided to submit to r/SketchDaily: "Another finished character drawing attempt. Geezhigo-Quae, the sky spirit from Ojibwa myth and my fantasy serial.") [Geezhigo-Quae 2019 [Friday, August 23, 2019, 2:47:28 AM]] 12/26/19: Geezhigo-Quae. Face isn't long enough. I hate how I butchered her hair in my "official" portrait of her, though. [Rough Geezhigo-Quae Sketch 2019 [Thursday, December 26, 2019, 2:16:29 AM]] 3/13/21: Geezhigo-Quae, the Sky Mother from my Manitou Island stories. I put lines under her eyes this time, since she's supposed to be old, yet ageless as well. Glowy blue eyes again, since she's a powerful manitou. I know I should be practicing IbisPaint X but I want to get some decent portraits out. ;_; [Geezhigo-Quae 2021 [Saturday, March 13, 2021, 11:41:45 PM]] |
