I don't know anybody here and nobody knows me... 😳 So, here's the fellow in my username. (An older, better version of him is my avatar on my main Tumblr.) I already drew my username a while back since I don't know anybody else in the sub... 😳 So...here's a grumpy-looking Egyptian ibis wearing a moon-and-ostrich-feather headdress. Is he an incarnation of the god Thoth/Tehuti? Is he merely a sacred ibis in a fancy hat? We may never know... Here's my older drawing of my username. [Egyptian Ibis [Monday, September 9, 2019, 9:42:37 PM]] 1/21/20: r/SketchDaily theme, "Simian Week: Baboon." I decided to try drawing the Egyptian god Thoth with a baboon head. He looks...rather crankier...than usual. 😐 (His eyes are bright blue as the Egyptian gods' eyes glow that color sometimes in my writing.) Here's my earlier drawing of him with his typical ibis head. Posting unfortunately late today because I was just too tired this morning to finish him on time and I hoped to do him some justice. Here's my latest Egyptian god portrait, Thoth the god of wisdom and the moon, my (user)namesake. (Eight is his sacred number, and I doubled it long ago when picking a username on Yahoo!. So the 88 in my name is related to Thoth/Tehuti, not to my birth year or Adolf Hitler as another user once insisted. 😐 ) He's drawn in a style more in line with my other portraits, thus why he looks significantly different from the Thoth in my usual avatar. (You can view this by hovering over my Reddit username, or going to my tehuti88 Tumblr (not tehuti88-art, that actually has a dumb scribble I made years ago in MS Paint as a "LOL J/K" reaction image).) Not sure how much I like him in this newer style but here he is anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I Googled African sacred ibises (the bird species Thoth was based on) and they are these freaky big birds with black heads/beaks and white feathers but I just can't imagine Thoth with a black head--for some reason I've always pictured him as gray, or possibly blue-gray--so I compromised and made him very dark gray. I only just remembered blue-gray as I was typing this--I seem to have a childhood memory of a very juvenile version of him (so long ago I can't even recall exactly how I drew him back then, I remember he had a big fluffy bird tail unlike an ibis tail, though) and I envisioned him as blue-gray. Hm, oh well. I reserve the right to modify him in the future. I really hesitated getting on drawing this. I find I've been doing this a lot, especially with the Egyptian god portraits. I realize this is because, with every portrait, I start out with an overwhelming anxiety that I'm going to end up sorely disappointed in the outcome. I'm usually not quite satisfied with it (this one is no exception), but have so far to experience the sore disappointment I keep expecting. I imagine it could still happen, and likely will, but it's a bit surprising it hasn't yet. Now I've probably jinxed myself, so... 😬 Anyway. Now that I've gotten a toughie like Thoth and his gigantic beak (which I actually cropped out and tilted up a bit, could've maybe done more but was tired of revising) out of the way, I'm not decided on who to do next.
