Anubis Blog Entry |
May 25, 2021, 12:57:39 AM 5/25/21: Guess who it is! 😃 Yep, it's Prince Anubis, and I'm finally realizing why I stall so much on drawing these guys--they're all so freaking complicated. Long hair, big hats, fancy necklaces, even simplifying their attire I get annoyed. Add to that the fact that I'm nowhere near as good at anthro art as I wish I were, and you get...only three Egyptian gods so far. And I messed up Hathor's ears. Sigh. Anyway, just a sidebar to mention how much I HATE the way Anubis is (IMO) almost always misrepresented in popular media as some sort of big bad guy, just because he's the god of death. It's weird, even in stories where most of the gods are depicted positively, Anubis is the bad guy. He's also, oddly, the god who seems to be depicted most often as animal headed even when the other gods traditionally with animal heads (Thoth, Horus, Set, etc.) are depicted as entirely human...can't figure that one out. Almost like he's the only one people feel is best depicted as an animal while the rest of the gods are humanized. 🤔 But anyway...enough with big bad Anubis! Just because he brings death doesn't make him a bad guy. In fact, in my own versions of events, he's probably one of the most sensitive and empathic gods, and took the job of Deathbringer BECAUSE he's so close to humans and understands them probably better than any of the other gods. He's also quite moody and does have an angry/rebellious streak (partly due to his messed-up family dynamic), but actual malice is something pretty foreign to his nature. So yeah...this big bad guy Anubis I keep coming across in other depictions is weird to me. I mean, to each his own, I guess, but surely I'm not the only one to write a sensitive moody emo Anubis...? Enough on that, I guess. Haven't decided who should come next as I feel pretty drained and uninspired lately. -_- [Anubis 2021 [Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 12:57:39 AM]] |
