This isn't quite how I picture him... :/ His hair, which changes styles at least twice in the series, is most recently supposed to be kind of like this picture of Tom Cruise (I remembered Cruise's hair being spikier than it is, hm), but as usual, I couldn't draw that to save my life...as it is, I toned his hair down twice and am still not satisfied but it'll have to do. I figured out how to make skin more tan than pink (this app doesn't have color mixing, but I put a tint of another color on top, I think it was 35% opacity but am not sure); this reflects the fact that Reich has some Roma ancestry. And he's really not supposed to look like a sexy nerd but I guess that happens when I put glasses on a sexy guy. 🤔 Anyway, this was the first time I managed to submit a Toyhou.se profile with art attached from the start...doubt anyone noticed it, but it was kind of cool to see my character avatar on the browse page. Feeling a bit discouraged tonight so I did more rough character sketches. I did them in my app rather than Kleki so I could have more space and use the select tool to shift the eyes a bit, which Kleki lacks. Upper left is Jay Campion. Meh, looks weirder than my last attempt, don't care for it. Upper right is Justin Reichert. Still not quite right, mostly because I struggle so with hair, but it's a great improvement over the "official" portrait I currently have which looks NOTHING like him. And bottom center is Emma Hemstad...still not quite happy with her, plus I hate how I can never show her eyebrows. Oh well. Previous attempts for each: Jay Campion sketch. Portrait. [Rough Various Sketches 2020 [Saturday, May 23, 2020, 12:12:34 AM]] 2/5/21: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." Still working on trying to draw my characters. Here's yet another try at former NYPD--now Minot PD--detective Justin Reichert. I saved him for last of my portraits for finished Toyhou.se profiles because he and his hair are a constant thorn in my side. URGH I CANNOT DRAW MEN'S HAIR! He's gone through a few hairstyles throughout the storyline--when he first appears it's thick and tousled, when he undergoes chemotherapy he shaves it short and wears a baseball cap, then most recently it's this kind of indescribable spiky something. There's a photo of a younger Tom Cruise I tried for inspiration but couldn't replicate it. If you look at my earlier version of Reichert HERE (oh good, the Tom Cruise pic is linked there, too), you'll see this has been driving me nuts for a long time. THAT DRAWING LOOKS NOTHING LIKE REICHERT. Ugh. Anyway, I can't say this one is perfect either, because I still can't clearly picture Reichert in my head, and especially not his hair. But...I tried. At least it isn't as cringy as the former one. And I can't understand why when I put his glasses on him he turns from a cop into a sexy nerd but that seems to happen every single time so it is literally just the glasses. This is the last current Toyhou.se portrait I had to update. All done! I still have some outdated portraits but they don't have finished written profiles yet...wish I were a faster writer (and artist). Those will probably be next. Justin Reichert. I know it's not much different from my last effort :/ but...meh...it's a tad better. Maybe next time I'll get there. And nah, I never get skin tones the same way twice.
