August 10, 2019, 2:18:39 PM February 4, 2021, 5:24:10 AM 8/9/19: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." Still working on trying to draw my characters for uploading to Toyhou.se. Here's Mark Kincaid, a police sergeant who's deceased by the time of the main story...but keeps popping up in the minds of two detectives as they investigate his suspicious death. Now, the stuff I saw no point posting on Reddit: In my novel Minot, Mark, in a memorial photo, is described as having a mustache. (He might have also had brown, rather than black, hair.) This was before he became a recurring character...yes...a dead guy, being a recurring character. (It's...complicated. But not in the least bit supernatural. I'd make this clearer, in a rewrite.) I started to feel rather awkward picturing him with a mustache...the vast majority of my characters lack facial hair, mostly because of personal preference, but now also because I doubt I could draw Mark with a 'stache without him looking like Freddie Mercury or something. Mark is about as far from Freddie Mercury as one can get, so...no more 'stache. At least for now. And I really need to rewrite that novel.
