I feel awkward posting this since I can't draw him as I imagine him, but this is what I've been working on for the past couple of days (over two hours spread out, a record for me, generally I lose hope in a drawing after a half-hour sitting), and Free Draw Friday gave me the excuse to kick myself and finish him already. So...here is Jason Rosedale, AKA Jay Campion (he prefers the latter...because that's the name of the alternate personality who assumed control of the body...I'll spare everyone the long weird story), the latest of my fictional characters I've tried to draw. Like I said, I'm not terribly satisfied with him, but this is the best I can do at my skill level right now. 😕 For anyone who's wondering (which I know is nobody), yes, he's related to the Det. Mike Rosedale I mentioned previously...she recently got her own finished portrait, which turned out better than his. Oh well. On to the next. 😕 [Jay Campion 2019 [Friday, August 2, 2019, 11:39:53 PM]] 2/1/20: 'Nother Kleki attempt, this time, Jay Campion. Fiddling around to see how he'd look with a less-spiky hairstyle; I usually imagine him resembling a young but more strung-out Billy Idol with shorter hair, but the truth is, his hair probably isn't THAT spiky, it's probably just more messy since he cuts and dyes it himself. I can't really imagine him spending a lot of time styling it since he's not quite the type. There's an artist on DeviantArt currently drawing pics of each OC of theirs and I find it inspiring though I'm envious that I can't do the same nearly as well, especially since I seem to be losing my meager skills yet again; I can't seem to replicate my earlier Kleki success. -_- Anyway, I came across THIS CHARACTER in their gallery (actually, THIS was the artwork I saw first), and he resembles my Campion quite a bit (though Campy's eyes are green), so I keep trying to doodle that hair. (I was thinking of but wasn't looking at these pics while making my own drawing. Obviously.) UGH why does hair trouble me so! Even when I look at refs, it doesn't translate to my pen. Frustrating. I see also the jaw could go back a bit more but I already saved the thing so meh. And I hope that artist doesn't mind me linking them as a frustrating inspiration. 😳 [Rough Campion Sketch 2020 [Saturday, February 1, 2020, 2:34:09 PM]] 5/22/20: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." Feeling a bit discouraged tonight so I did more rough character sketches. I did them in my app rather than Kleki so I could have more space and use the select tool to shift the eyes a bit, which Kleki lacks. Upper left is Jay Campion. Meh, looks weirder than my last attempt, don't care for it. Upper right is Justin Reichert. Still not quite right, mostly because I struggle so with hair, but it's a great improvement over the "official" portrait I currently have which looks NOTHING like him. And bottom center is Emma Hemstad...still not quite happy with her, plus I hate how I can never show her eyebrows. Oh well. Previous attempts for each: Jay Campion sketch. Portrait. Here's my redo of Jay Campion, AKA Jason Rosedale. Not perfect but at least I'm not horribly repelled by him, yet. (He's not wearing eyeshadow, he just has dark rings around his eyes from a lot of hard living. Not that he'd be averse to wearing eyeshadow or anything like that.) I posted his previous portrait in SketchDaily, so here that is. His Toyhou.se profile is linked in the Reddit comment chain but HERE it is too because I weirdly didn't include it in my Tumblr repost.
