ANNIT Character/Story Info |
Another New but Necessary Intelligent Telepath. (Yes, awkward.) Psychic animals escaping a lab and going on the run. Certain characters were based on actual famous psychics; these have been repurposed as animal test subjects with names merely inspired by psychics.
STORY DETAILS Storyline Creation Date: Idea: 1980s-90s First known writing: circa 1991 Stories: ANNIT CONTENT WARNINGS Generic warnings: Mild violence. DISCLAIMERS Most of the characters were originally meant to be anthropomorphic versions of actual famous psychics. I've changed this so that now they're merely named after psychics based on their abilities. "Ingo Swann" had a design that was based on a toy swan(?) that came with some set of mine, I can't recall the name but I think it was similar to Polly Pocket in concept. (I just tried a bunch of search terms and the toy series is Charmkins, but I can't find anything that matches this weird swan or goose figurine. It was solid purple or pink, I think it was wearing a vest, and it had something like a pinecone on its head. I can't find it with any Google searches; it wasn't Keypers or Barbie, we didn't have that kind of money. It was just a small toy and I believe an accessory of a bigger set of something, like maybe it came with a doll, but I wasn't big on dolls so I can't imagine what it came with. I assumed it was part of a Charmkins set--I owned the house and the windmill--but my memory of it doesn't match that style and I don't see it in Charmkins listings. Mysterious. Seriously, what was on his head??) STORYLINE HISTORY/INSPIRATION Long ago I was really into supernatural phenomena of all sorts, and this old battered book I bought at a garage sale for like a quarter, George Laycock's Mysteries, Monsters & Untold Secrets, was one of my faves. (The Loch Ness Monster on the cover influenced my own idea of him. My Ness was a he.) A chapter was dedicated to psychic animals and I remember a photo of two dogs, foxhounds I believe, lying in the grass; I seem to recall there was a psychic dog named Hightail. (I don't have the book on hand anymore, so can't confirm the specifics, though I clearly remember the photo.) This chapter was the spark that led to ANNIT. My obsession with the topic led to me naming the characters after famous psychics such as Edgar Cayce, Ingo Swann, and Uri Geller; Hightail might have been a character, then there was ANNIT himself, who was my original creation. The meaning of his acronym was kind of retconned in, thus why it's so awkward. I also seem to recall that ANNIT was not actually a telepath. Hm. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS Rebellion.
