The Dragon |
I've looked into the dragon's mouth, I've seen the sharpness of its teeth; I've known the pain and fear that grows, Shut up in darkness underneath. I've looked into the dragon's eyes, I've felt the fierceness of its breath; I've known the slowly spreading dark, The lonely ache of inner death. I've fought the dragon hand to hand, I've felt its sharply shredding claws; I've felt the rage lurking within Flame out between its snapping jaws. I've slain the dragon through its heart, And found release in its death throes; And as the dragon fades to dust, Something inside me wakes--and grows. --1998 |
